Curbside Pick Up during Covid-19 Lockdown – UPDATE

First and foremost, we thank you all for your continued support and understanding during this difficult and highly unusual new way of doing things. We hope this finds you all feeling well and adjusting to our strange new lifestyle. We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support (and sales) these past few weeks and cannot wait until we can all convene together in person again.

We are happy to resume Curbside Pick Up, however with a few restrictions in place for the health and safety of yourself and your family and for ours.

Pick-up day will be Wednesday’s between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Orders that are placed at placed before Tuesday at 2 p.m. will be ready the following day. Orders placed after this time will be ready the next week. If you need something sooner, it can be shipped directly to you in the safety of your home.

We will arrange a pick-up appointment time with you. We ask that you please adhere to the appointment time frame we mutually agree upon when we confirm your order, so we maintain the regulations set out by the Federal and Provincial Health guidelines regarding the 2 metre distance rule.

Once you arrive, please call the store to let us know you are here to receive your order. We will place your order outside of the store’s main entrance. When we are back in the store, then you can get out of your vehicle and pick up your order. Arrangements can be made for new machine or machine repair pick-ups to be lifted into your vehicle.

Please watch our social media pages and the news page on our website for updates and sales. We are constantly exploring new ways to ‘stay in touch’ and our goal is to implement some of those ideas soon.

Again, many, many thanks for your continued support, understanding and cooperation.

Stay home, stay healthy, stay crafting. Together, we will get through this.

Effective tonight at 11:59 pm, the Government of Ontario has issued a mandatory closure to businesses not deemed ‘essential’.

We’ve had the doors closed to our store for a week now, and that will remain in effect until we are given the green light by the Health Officials that we can reopen for business as usual once again.

In the meantime, we are allowed to operate online and we will continue to fill orders for supplies as you require them.   Email to inquire about products you need and we will work with you via email or telephone to meet your needs and get your supplies to you via shipping directly to the safety of your home.

We are currently awaiting information regarding Curbside Pick Up.  We hope to have answers regarding that within the next 24-48 hours and will update this post as soon as we have confirmed with the ministry of health if that can continue or not.

Payments for supplies can be made via VISA/MASTERCARD/E-Transfer.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding throughout this new way of doing business.  Together we will get through the current situation and be back to ‘real life’ as soon as it’s safe for all.

Covid19 Canada Shut Down

Update on access during the COVID-19 health crisis.
We hope this post finds you well.
As much as we have increased the sanitation of the store, we cannot guarantee, when we are open to the public, that infection won’t happen given the nature of this rapidly spreading virus.
Because first and foremost, we value the health and well-being of our customers and staff. I have decided that temporarily suspending normal operations at That Sewing Place is a necessity.
With regard to classes, they will resume when we reopen and the classes that were scheduled for this week will be rescheduled at a later date.
At this point, the plan is to reopen on Tuesday, March 24th when we will resume regular business hours. However, situations and government guidelines change hourly, so should we find it necessary to extend this partial closure, we will be updating you on the situation next week.
In the interim, should you require supplies, please email and we will be happy to ship out any supplies you require.  You can also use this email for Repair status enquiries.
Please stay tuned to our social media pages and website for further updates. In the meantime, stay home (if you can), healthy, and keep on sewing!

Now in Stock! The Schmetz Super Universal Needle in sizes 80/12 and 90/14!

You may or may not have heard about these new ‘super’ needles, but super doesn’t begin to describe how great they are!  Once you try one, we’re certain you’ll be adding them into your needle collection!

Sondra and Marlene have been testing them out in the store and they are hooked!  These needles are crafted out of a super slick and antiadhesive material that allows them to literally glide through your fabric – even hook and loop!  Because of the larger eye, these needles are perfect for embroidery and if you love using spray adhesive or ‘sticky’ stabilizers, these are definitely a must!

The “Q” Has Landed!

On Sunday, March 1st, Jaret, Mikaela and Marlene spent some family time at the store and opened up those boxes that had been sitting in the back classroom for a few days…Mikaela did a great job supervising (as evidenced in the photo) the opening of the boxes and assembly of the hydraulic table.  She did a great job, because the Grimble Family had that beautiful machine up and running in no time!

The hydraulic table will allow you to sit or stand while quilting, and the large 20″ throat provides room to quilt those quilts demand more reach than your home machine.  With it’s built-in dual Stitch Regulator, you can stitch up to 2200 stitches per minute and know your stitching will always be perfect, now matter how fast or slow you sew.  A dedicated bobbin winder (auto fill while you’re sewing) means you’ll save time keeping a few extra on hand for quick changes!  Customize your stitch length from 24 stitches per inch right up to 1 stitch per inch (yep, that’s one stitch every 25mm – perfect for those who like to take advantage of the basting feature). Fifty LED lights gives you ample lighting right under the entire length of the throat. To top it off, the 4″ colour touchscreen makes adjustments (including electronic tension and personal stitch control preferences) easy to see and do.

Tucked away in a cozy corner of the back classroom at TSP, this machine will soon be available for hourly rental for those who want some quiet quilt time away from your busy home.  Finish your quilt and know you made it from start to finish without the aid (or cost) of having someone else’s long arm machine do the work.  You can quote Frank Sinatra and say “I did it my way”.

Not sure how to use it?  No worries, initial operator training is included with your first rental rental session, and having the luxury of a knowledgeable and experienced staff member on hand while you’re here will give you the confidence to operate the machine as you complete your one of a kind quilt on your own!

If you fall in love with the machine, know that as Authorized Bernina Dealers we can get you one of your own to take home.

Early Spring Cleaning and Organizing

We need to have some hope that Spring is around the corner, right?

Given the crazy weather this past few weeks, and despite how busy the store has been (hey, we’re not complaining), Marlene and Mikaela spent some time reorganizing the front of the store.

Stabilizer Rolls can now be found lining the front window along with machine mats, specialty patterns, felt and pre-cut pillow case kits, tea towels, vinyl/htv sampler kits and more.

New Heat Transfer Vinyls (High Tack versions, new colours and a gorgeous pink reflective) arrived and we were running out of space to display them, so after some shuffling of shelves, hooks and baskets, we now have a newly reorganized ‘Vinyl’ area. Our ScanNCut Accessory wall is now set up to be much easier to see and grab those accessories you need.

Giving Back for 10 – February MSDH

Last Tuesday we held a workshop at That Sewing Place and asked for Volunteers to help sew blankets for the NICU/Ronald McDonald House Charities Family Room at the Markham Stouffville District Hospital as part of our Giving Back for 10 Campaign.

We were overwhelmed with the response and had a full house in both classrooms sewing up a storm!

We want to thank everyone who contributed to our cause.  From the suggestion, to organizing the workshop and providing lunch, to the donations of fabric, washing, drying, ironing, cutting, folding, and of course, sewing and completing the blankets, we want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions!  We could not have done this without you!

Our goal that day was to complete 60 blankets that will be given to families with babies at Markham Stouffville District Hospital, but our busy sewists wouldn’t stop at 60, and the next morning, Jaret accompanied by Karen Williams (a regular volunteer for the M.S.D.H.) was happy to present 102 blankets to Danielle Giokas, Family Room Coordinator at the RMHC Family Room at Markham Stouffville District Hospital (M.S.D.H.).

Please accept our gratitude once again.

Giving Back for 10 Campaign

This coming November, That Sewing Place will celebrate it’s 10th year of Business.  Hard to believe it’s been that long, but we are so grateful to our loyal Customers, Family and Friends who have supported us through the years.

To honour the support you have given us, we wanted to sponsor 10 local Charities (one for every month leading up to November), as our way of thanking the community.

In January, our chosen charity was Kate and Me Cat Rescue.  They have been placing abandoned, orphaned, stray and surrendered cats into their fur-ever homes since 2005.  They will work with families to ensure that the cat they adopt will be the perfect one for them (and that they are the perfect family for the cat).  They operate out of the Newmarket PetSmart at Yonge St and the Green Lane) during store hours, and have a representative on hand during the weekends and at adoption events.    You can find them online on their facebook page, or by calling (905) 953-8355.

After hosting a ScanNCut Heat Transfer event at the store on February 4th (due to scheduling, we were unable to do it in January), our wonderful volunteers made bandanas and blankets that will be used and worn by the kittens and cats that are at adoption events.

The next day, Jaret was happy to take them to the home of the rescue where their own pet cat, Mildred, gave him her Seal of Approval by jumping in the box and inspecting the goodies!

As a Volunteer run Organization, Kate and Me Cat Rescue relies on the donations and assistance of others.  Please contact them if you’d like to foster, donate, or adopt your next furry family member.
